Question of the day: What is your big goal as a freelance writer? Why does this goal matter to you?
I did an early retirement and couldn’t make it on that due to some unfortunate events, so I went to work to supplement my retirement and it is taking everything I can do to make it and it leaves not time for me or my family. I also want to write a novel or two. I was doing research for a biography of something my mother did but now I have no time to finish my research not the money to go where I need to go to finish it. I thought maybe if I became a copywriter I could do both.
My goal is to work from home, doing what I love to do. Also it will give me more time with my family. I am having trouble getting started because of time and money.
My goal is to quit 9-5 job and replace it with freelance writing for a decent income, also have a better time to spend with my family.
My big goal as a free-lance writer/copyeditor is simply to supplement my retirement income. I’ve written for association publications for years as a volunteer. I know my writing is good – and now I’d like to get paid for it.
My long-term goal is to be a novelist, and challenge young readers to enjoy life and grow stronger as a person. There were several novels in my life that challenged me to push myself and to become better people, and I want to give that gift to others!
My long term goal as a writer is to continue the process and hobby of what I love to do which is writing. I am not aware of many like myself and a bit uncomfortable to speak about as few might not understand that I get ideas via dreams and just creative mind at great work almost every single day. My first published book entitled: Emotions in Motion/To Rise Above Pen Name: Robert L. Mir’beau The above mentioned book has a lot to do with past over-coming past traumas while making a diference in my life hopefully touch someone heart and soul for their own transition to hope, love and transparency. It is written and shared with the world in a poetic fashion. With all that been said, I should have been on my third to fourth written book yet I thought I would make a script based on my book to reach a larger audience and bring messages of hope and love to all who care to join successes in all aspect of life. That didn’t go well with the gate keepers because of their own restrictions as I was told by a well known Hollywood Producer to do… Read more »
I also want this to be my career. I have loved writing since I was a child. Ultimately, I want to be a published novelist.
My big long term goal is to write my autobiography for my kids, but I also want to write short stories, articles, and essays to get paid.
I am thinking the income from this could go to help others, not yet defined.
I am 81 years old and family history indicates I have about 10 more years to live. I need something to fill those days. Since my physical ability is limited now, writing seems to be the way to go. I have always loved to write and have bits and pieces of started things from the past. Many need completing and refining. However I have seeds.

P.S. Jacob I can tell by your sincerity and video presence that you really believe and live by what you say. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Mary Jean, it’s wonderful that you want to record your family history for your kids! I wish more of my relatives had done the same.
I also have many pieces that I started writing in the past. Now, I find myself combining some of those stories or pulling characters from them for new pieces. It’s feels great when you can look back and see what the “seeds” have grown into.
Best of luck!
To have this be fully my career. Fully my job. It only pays half of the bills at the moment. Writing is not just my dream it’s my life. It is who I am. I am disabled so writing from home is the best career choice for me too. It will also prove to all who dismissed me that I could when I was told I could not.
Janis – Thank you for sharing this! I have a chronic disease, and I can say that working from home has made it so much easier to manage.
